South Bend Community Schools wants public input on ways to reduce the number of buildings it maintains as enrollment continues to decline. Among the options they want input on is closing one or two high schools, possibly converting one to a middle school, and regionalizing magnet programs. The district wants to reduce its budget as state money matching enrollment declines, and tax caps take a further bite out the districts income. Possibly on the chopping block: Clay High School and Riley High School.

The death toll in that big earthquake in Turkey and Syria is now over four thousand, and still climbing. The 7.8 quake was followed a fe hours later by a 7.5 aftershock. Numerous buildings collapsed in southern Turkey and northern Syria. Worse yet, the quake hit refugee camps on both sides of the border where millions who’ve lost homes in Syria live.

A Florida man with ties to a neo-Nazi group is one of two people charged in a power grid attack in Baltimore, Maryland. Brandon Russell of Orlando earlier spent four years in prison on federal explosives charges, and is listed as a co-founder of a nee-Nazi group that says it wants to speed up the destruction of society. A Maryland woman is also charged.

NBA: the Chicago Bulls won at home, downing San Antonio 128-104. The Bulls play in Memphis tonight. The Detroit Pistons fell at home to the Boston Celtics, 111-99.

In college ball: the Indiana Hoosiers host Rutgers tonight in Bloomington. Michigan State is at home against Maryland in East Lansing.

Pro hockey is back from its All-Star break, with the Chicago Blackhawks at home against Anaheim tonight at the United Center. The Redwings host Edmonton in Detroit.
