Right to Life groups held demonstrations outside major pharmacy chain locations in South Bend Friday, protesting the sale of what they call abortion pills. They say it’s an effort to highlight the issue, and push state lawmakers to include the pills in legal bans on abortions. Notre Dame Right to Life, Hoosier Voices for Life and Michiana Right to Life participated.

Senators will get a classified briefing on that downed Chinese balloon next week, after it was shot down by a US fighter just off the South Carolina coast Saturday. China insists the flyover was an accident involving a civilian aircraft, but the Pentagon says it was a surveillance ship guided over the US by the Chinese. A second balloon floating over Latin America could reach America’s east coast by next week. Navy divers are now recovering what they can from about 50 foot deep water.

There are reports overnight of a major earthquake in southern Turkey and northern Syria, with hundreds reportedly killed, and the death toll expected to rise. The 7.8 Richter Scale quake was centered in south central Turkey, with many buildings collapsed and possibly hundreds more people buried in rubble.

Notre Dame women’s basketball took a 57-52 home loss against Duke Sunday. The Irish men lost Saturday at home to Wake Forest, 81-64.

In the BIg Ten, Indiana won its home showdown against Purdue Saturday, 79-74. Sunday, Michigan downed Ohio State in Ann Arbor, 77-69.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs have arrived in Arizona to prepare for this Sunday’s Super Bowl. Kickoff about 6:40 Sunday at the Arizona Cardinals stadium just outside Phoenix.

NBA: Cleveland over the Indiana Pacers 122-103. The Chicago Bulls host San Antonio tonight.
