South Bend set a new snowfall record for the date on Friday, with six inches of new snow just that day. We got more on Saturday and Sunday, including a squall that almost obscured the field during the third quarter of the Notre Dame-Boston College football game. It’ll all be melting away over the next several days, with sunny skies and highs in the 40s forecast today through Thanksgiving.

A mass shooting at a gay and transgender nightclub in Colorado Saturday night could have happened anywhere, according to some of the people in South Bend who gathered Sunday for a Transgender Day of Remembrance, to honor those victimized by violence because of their LGBTQ+ preferences. A shooter killed five and wounded dozens at a Colorado Springs club Saturday night, before he was disarmed by patrons at the club. He remains hospitalized, and his motives unclear this morning.

The World Cup is underway in Qatar, with the US team’s first game on tap this afternoon our time against Wales. There were chants of “We want beer!” in the stands during last night’s opener between Ecuador and and Qatar, after the government announced it would not sell beer in the stadium.

Notre Dame is up five spots to 13th in the new AP College Football Poll, after wiping out Boston College Saturday, 44-nothing on Senior Day. This Saturday’s opponent USC is up to 5th.

In the Big Ten, Indiana won at Michigan State, 39-31 in double overtime, Purdue beat Northwestern in West Lafayette, 17-to-9, and 3rd ranked Michigan downed Illinois in Ann Arbor, 19-17.

NFL Sunday, the Bears came up short against the Falcons in Atlanta, 27-24. The Colts fell at home to Philadelphia 17-16. The Detroit Lions beat the Giants in New York, 31-to-18. The Monday night game this week is San Francisco at Arizona.

Hockey: the Blackhawks lost in Chicago to Pittsburgh, 5-to-3. Notre Dame split a pair at Ohio State, losing Friday 5-to-2, winning Saturday 1-nothing.
