Consultants working with South Bend Schools on the future of school buildings say they will not recommend going to two high schools from the current four. But one of the four could still need to close as enrollment continues to decline. The South Bend Council is pushing the district to leave all three inside the city limits open, which could leave Clay High School as the one to close. Parents and others in that part of the district are lobbying to keep their school. Decisions are due this spring, and could take effect this fall.

President Biden Monday said again that depositors in two banks that failed in the last few days can now get all of their money. Specialty banks in Silicon Valley and New York City are closed after too many depositors at once tried to withdraw their funds. Biden says federal insurance will cover everyone, taxpayers will not be on the hook, and management and shareholders at the banks will take the hit.

As we deal with some lake effect snow today in Michiana, the first big nor’easter of the year is shaping up in New England. Heavy rain and snow plus wind gusts as high as 50 miles per hour could affect the I-95 corridor from New York City to Boston, and drop a lot more snow in the New England moutains.

We now have a game time for Irish women’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament opener on Friday. The irish will host Southern Utah at 3:30 Friday afternoon at Purcell Pavilion, with the second round on Sunday. Our sister station Live 99-9 will have live coverage.

The NCAA men’s tournament opens today with two play-in games, followed by two more tomorrow before the main draw begins play Thursday and Friday. Purdue and Indiana both open their tournament play Friday evening.

NBA: the Pistons beat the Indiana Pacers in Detroit, 117-97. The Chicago Bulls host Sacramento tomorrow night.
